Twitch Boss Says Studios Right to Avoid GTA 6, Expects GTA Online 2 in 2027
Twitch CEO Dan Clancy says rival game companies are smart to avoid competing with GTA 6 this November, predicting huge viewership numbers that will surge even higher when GTA Online 2 arrives in 2027.

Twitch CEO Dan Clancy has shared candid thoughts on the impending launch of Grand Theft Auto VI, advising other gaming companies that they are making the right choice by steering clear of Rockstar Games' blockbuster this November. In a recent discussion, Clancy noted that GTA 6 will command near-total dominance over player attention and livestreaming mindshare, cautioning publishers that trying to launch competing titles in the same window is an uphill battle.
Direct Talks with Rockstar and Creator Strategy
According to Clancy, Twitch leadership has already engaged in in-depth conversations with Rockstar Games regarding release plans and creator engagement. The goal is to prepare streaming infrastructure and help the developer maximize community broadcasts across the platform.
"We spent a lot of time talking with Rockstar about their plans, and also helping them think about how they can engage our creators," Clancy revealed. "You are going to see this big bump with GTA 6, but then an even bigger one next year when they launch multiplayer."
GTA Online 2 Expected in 2027
While Rockstar Games has not yet officially unveiled the launch timeframe or branding for its next-generation multiplayer component, industry observers and content creators widely expect GTA Online 2 (or whatever the multiplayer mode is titled) to debut in 2027. Rolling out the single-player campaign first before deploying multiplayer follows Rockstar's proven strategy from GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2, allowing players to thoroughly explore Leonida and finish the narrative before diving into online competition.
The Fate of the Original GTA Online
The anticipation surrounding a new multiplayer era also raises questions about what happens to the existing GTA Online, which continues to enjoy millions of active monthly users and steady updates. Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick previously suggested that legacy games do not necessarily need to be shut down, referencing how 2K Sports maintained NBA 2K Online and NBA 2K Online 2 concurrently in Asian markets to preserve player investments and communities.
With Grand Theft Auto VI launching initially on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, the current GTA Online will also remain an essential home for PC players until Rockstar eventually announces a Windows version. In the meantime, excitement continues to intensify worldwide as Rockstar enters the final sprint toward GTA 6's monumental November 19, 2026 release.
